Wheeler Back in Treasurer's Race?

Rumor in the 19th Circuit is that former Kansas City Mayor and State Senator Charlie Wheeler is back on the August Primary Ballot for Missouri State Treasurer.  Wheeler was knocked off the ballot in April for failing to file his personal financial disclosure as required by the Missouri Ethics Commission.

Democrats have Jefferson City attorney Alex Bartlett to thank for this unnecessary return to the ballot.

What does this mean for the primary?  Is this what Simckes needs to catch the better qualified and funded Zweifel?  Does this once again clear the way for Powell to come from nowhere to take the nomination from party activists?

Zweifel is not necessarily more qualified. He has no experience in working with large budgets, or directly with economic development. Both are notches for Simckes. She's also extremely sharp and smart and well educated (Brown University and Washington University Law) especially in the nuances of Economic Development

Zweifel has been elected before, and he has fought tough battles and made solidly red area's blue. He's also ridiculously smart, and true Policy Wonk, with all it's positive connotations. I just don't see how these things make him more qualified. Equally probably. But I lean more to Simckes on qualifications.

As for who this helps, I think the both of them. Wheeler really takes votes from Mark Powell. Simckes and Zweifel both have bases to count on. But Powell, who doesn't seem as active as he did 4 years ago, came up the middle in a 3 way, when bases were split.

With Wheeler taking votes away from Powell this time around, I think the name of the game for this race is GOTV for Zweifel and Simckes, it's going to be one or the other, and it just depends on who's bases are stronger, and how well they can convince the members of said bases that they are true representatives of their issues.

I don't know who is better placed to do this, but I think the odds are with Simckes. Should be a fun one to watch
