First the Dems traded in a Gunn for an Eagleton, now two more races took a strange turn today. Molly Williams and Charlie Wheeler (yes, the former state Senator), must have carpooled to Jefferson City together as they both filed for statewide office today. Williams for Attorney General and Wheeler for Treasurer.
Wheeler's entry further complicates matters in the primary as Clint Zweifel, Andria Simckes, and Mark Powell must make room for one more. Big Muddy tries not to be ageist, but Dr. Wheeler was born in 1926 for pete's sake! As for the AG's race, Williams evens the playing field pitting her and Margaret Donnelly against Jeff Harris and Chris Koster in a gender match up.
Big Muddy is sensing some shenanigans as these two Kansas Citians suddenly allege to be viable candidates. In what could be a good year for Dems, more candidates means more money raised and spent before the general election. Not smart when you still have to face well-funded Republicans. Certainly, it is time for Jay Nixon and John Temporiti to stop the madness.
A wise man once said "the Democrats will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity." It's looking that way.
MPN has background on Williams and a great picture.

Molly and Koster make strange bedfellows. This smells like a trial lawyer scheme. They are so smart aren't they?
Charlie Wheeler was put in by Phil Cardarella. Now that I think of it so was Molly as she is an old Katherine Shields hack.
Looks like the Koster folks' recruiting efforts finally paid off - they get Molly Williams. Who is she again?
Should a judge's wife really be taking part in such slimy politics? But then again he is on the overpaid and underworked KC Municipal Court. He takes part why shouldnt she.
John Temporiti is a lame duck Party Chair. Nixon is in the driver's seat, and Koster is giving the directions. We need leadership in the party. Good story Big Muddy, it's too bad that our party leadership is selling its soul on behalf of political opportunists like Koster.
This Molly Williams business is such an obvious scheme by *somebody* to attempt to court votes away from Margaret Donnelly. Has the woman ever expressed any interest in being AG? I mean, honestly, who lets a photo of herself wearing A BOA be the photo that shows up along with stories of her filing?!?
*Someone* must be really desperate and so threatened by Donnelly's campaign that he or she has to try such a pathetic attempt to undermine what they see might be a threat--her position as the first woman to run for AG, and the only woman in this race.
In my mind, no matter whose name appears on the ballot, MARGARET DONNELLY IS STILL THE ONLY WOMAN IN THE AG'S RACE, AND IS THE BEST DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL.
It's pretty obvious Koster got Williams to run. Just one more reason Democrats ought to laugh him right out of the race. It would be nice for Temporiti to make a statement about it.
Donnelly's the only woman in the race, but Jeff Harris is the best candidate. He's not only the best qualified, he's also the best candidate for the general election.
